Online forum to discuss and identify potential drivers for change to enable and encourage museums to take more environmentally responsible decisions when lending and borrowing

The aim of this online forum is to convene UK and international colleagues working on temporary and touring exhibitions for a facilitated conversation about the barriers and opportunities for reducing the environmental impact of lending and borrowing collections.
It will be an opportunity to hear how colleagues around the world are taking steps to reduce the environmental impact of lending and borrowing, a chance to share best practice, and a forum to understand the individual and collective challenges to making changes.
Touring Exhibitions Group (TEG) has been commissioned by Arts Council England (ACE) to research and identify potential drivers for change that would enable and encourage museums to take more environmentally responsible decisions when lending and borrowing in the UK and internationally.
The scoping work will explore barriers and opportunities for practical change in relation to reducing carbon emissions linked to UK and international loans for exhibitions, and the next steps needed to achieve sector agreement to collective actions that will reduce the climate impact of lending to exhibitions. The output from this project will be a report by TEG that outlines what would need to be addressed to reduce emissions via a new environmentally responsible Loan Agreement template, sector charter and/or other relevant outcomes.
English will be the working language for this online forum. Automated closed captions on Zoom will be enabled.
